Gambian Women’s Lives Matter March

The Gambian Women’s Lives Matter march–an effort lead and founded by Mbama Care founders, Mballing Cham and Matida Bojang–took place on September 23rd, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Hundreds of women and men peacefully marched while chanting, “no woman should die in labor”.

Additionally, a letter that was written by the Gambian Women’s Lives Matter movement executive team was read at the march. In the letter, the members made several requests:

  • Provision of adequate financing for the health sector.
  • Formulation of appropriate policies based on evidence-based medical guidelines
  • Provision of proper healthcare infrastructure and equipment.
  • Adequate supplies of drugs and blood.
  • Improve transport and communication network.
  • Information and education to promote health-seeking behavior.

  • Incorporation of emergency obstetric nursing care in the entire nursing training curriculum.
